Thank You………………..
December 31, 2009 | News
Its 7:30PM and I am closing down the company for 2009. We made it through the hardest year of business in my lifetime and we are still healthy at it’s finale. I am thankful for more people than I can list. I have a team that isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty and will work long hours. They don’t complain about the extra time we put in to make sure that the product and service is at the level that our customers demand. They are our backbone and I am proud to be associated with each and every one of them. I have customers who are loyal and honest. Your support this year has let us keep doing what we love. And I have a family and spouse who understands my stress and the long hours necessary to create something so unique and superior in our industry. Thank you everyone. I am more appreciative than you know.
Happy 2010!

Rear-Button-Focus-Only on DF Body
December 23, 2009 | Tech, Top Articles
In the Miami office our customers very frequently want to set a camera so that a button on the rear (used with your thumb) will activate the Autofocus system but the shutter release does not. This is useful if you wish to shoot multiple frames after a focus-and-recompose.
More Information on why you would want to set the camera this way.
On just about every camera this requires changing a custom function or two. Soon owners of P40+ and P65+ digital backs will be able to set the custom functions of a DF body using the digital back’s LCD. Until then here is way to set this configuration using the DF Body.
Summary
Set CF#12 to Option 1
Set CF#9 to Option 1
Set CF#10 to Option 2
Step-by-step
1) Rotate your Mode dial to “CF” to access the custom function list.
2) Under CF#00 rotate the thumb dial to select Custom Function Set A. This allows you to make changes from the defaults which will be stored in Set A. This also allows you to set up three different custom function sets (e.g. for three styles of shooting or for three different photographers sharing a camera) and also allows you to always return to the default settings (by selecting — instead of A B or C) without having to “reset” the camera.
3) Rotate the front finger dial to function #12 and then the thumb dial to set custom function #12 to option 1. This sets the AF-L button to be an AF-On button so instead of locking focus it engages the AF engine.
4) Rotate the front finger dial to function #9 and then the thumb dial to set custom function #9 to option 1. This switches the AEL (normally on the rear) and AFL (normally on the front) so that now the rear button engages Autofocus.
5) Rotate the front finger dial to function #10 and then the thumb dial to set custom function #10 to option 2. This removes autofocus from the shutter release.

Deduct Using Section 179*
The purchase of photo equipment is tax deductible if it will be used for business purposes. But to save on your taxes in March you need to make your purchase during 2009. A few days delay could mean thousands of dollars in just a few months. Still making your decision? We have an unusually wide array of demo and used items in stock which would make great end of the year purchases. Read more at section179.org.

Giving a little back this season………

Help Portrait
A few weeks ago, Jason Fobart of APA Atlanta, contacted me and asked me if I could help with a charity project here in the inner city. Living downtown and having our business based here, I feel a strong connection to the people I see everyday on the streets that we share. During the year we do a little here and there where we can, but this was a chance to bring some joy into a few lives that really could use a boost. When Jason explained the cause and what the organization was trying to accomplish on an international level we jumped in with both feet and offered as much as we could possibly do to help with this cause. I can go on and on in words to describe this day but I think that it is better to watch it in video.
From APA Atlanta’s Help Portrait
About Help Portrait Across the World
Sometimes it is easy take so much for granted in our lives. I asked one young man why his address wasn’t filled out and he stated that he didn’t know his Mom’s address. I dialed his mom’s number and handed him my phone. When the line picked up I heard the joy in his voice ” Hi mom! It’s me James…… yes…… yes……. I am doing fine…….” The conversation went on but I didn’t want to eavesdrop. But the tone of James’ voice said it all. It was what we were trying achieve here that day. Photographers using their talents to provide a little bit of joy, pride, or hope this holiday. I want to thank all those who “let” us give them something on Saturday, because in return……….. they gave us so much more.
