Bip a Hit: w/ Phase One DF Camera
June 13, 2010 | News
Recently Capture Integration became dealers for the Match Technical line of products – accessories for (primarily) Leica M9, M8, and other Leica rangefinder cameras.
The products consist of a variety of shoe-attached thumb rests, cold shoe expansion units, and shutter release convex and concave buttons. We’ve already sold some of these accessories to our Leica clients. I have to say I like the vibe of the company and the products seem well crafted.
However, I was curious about the release buttons for a different product: The Phase One DF Camera. Traditionally, the Mamiya 645 shutter release has a different feel than many cameras. Rather than a short path click, the Mamiya 645 camera has a longer throw press. Meaning the total distance travelled from top of the release to bottom of the release is further than some cameras. Add in an inconsistent release point and a lag in the response time, and it’s easy to see how users were frustrated.
As many know, the Phase One DF has numerous improvements over the previous Mamiya/Phase One generation 645 bodies. One of those improvements concerns the shutter lag. The Phase One DF shortens the release path, makes the release point more consistent within that path, and dramatically reduces the lag. In comparing various Mamiya models with the newest Phase One DF, I could feel a dramatic improvement.
But the Match Technical Bip caught my eye as a possible enhancement to the Phase One DF. I had a theory that screwing a Bip into the Phase One DF release socket would somehow reduce the above and below throw of the release path even further. In practice, it turns out my theory was correct. Besides myself, I’ve had two other photographers try it with and without and both overwhelmingly preferred the DF with the Bip.
In addition to enhancing the feel of the release, it also, by raising the pressure of the release off the camera, reduces shake from the release push of your finger. The Bip costs $18. I can’t imagine any DF user not preferring it. Call us today and order one for your Phase One DF.

Pro Bono P65+ work at the Neighboorhood School
June 13, 2010 | CI Team
By Dave Gallagher, Owner, Husband, Father
I live in downtown Atlanta. Two of my children go to a local charter school. Charter schools are privately run primary and secondary schools that receive partial public and partial private funding. The positive aspect of these schools are that the community decides on curriculum, scheduling, and management and are not held to the regulations of state run public schools. The negative aspect is that it takes quite of bit of outside funding to make up for the shortfall of financial backing. The positives dramatically outweigh the negatives in regards to inner city schools and by doing so there is a lottery system in order to be accepted. But lets get back to the reason for this post… : ) Charter schools REQUIRE each parent to volunteer a certain amount of hours per child and we have TWO! Needless to say my wife spends more time volunteering than I do. So when I heard of the chance to shoot the annual school photo, I jumped in to do my part.
So what do you use to shoot a 300 child group photo? Heck, a 60mp P65+ of course, what else would anyone use? As you can see the shoot went as smooth as it possible could with that many squirming adolescents. And I have to admit that the results were outstanding. It is incredible to see all the amazing detail of each child at this distance. And even more so, it is a joy to view each individual’s personality by their expressions. I loved this so much that I just thought I had to share it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Monitor Shoot out
June 12, 2010 | News
Ever wonder why one 24″ monitor sells for $900 and another monitor of the same size can be more than twice that cost? Of course you can read all the marketing BS from each manufacturer and try to disseminate the truth from the reality yourself. Each manufacturer will tell you why they have the better specifications, tolerances, and value. But who do you trust? This is easy for us…………………
We trust nobody! This may sound harsh but it is how we have to be at Capture Integration. Our reputation is more important than any quick sale. Our customers come to us from all over the world because of this reputation. Comparing digital capture results are not easy but they are dramatically easier than comparing multiple monitors and conveying that info over the internet. This is something that just has to be done in person. If you are in the area, give us a call and make an appointment to see the latest technologies in monitors at either our Miami or Atlanta offices. Seeing is believing.

C1 5.1.2 Released
June 10, 2010 | Tech, Tech Features
Capture One 5.1.2 has been released with enhancements mainly for Leaf cameras, Windows 64 bit drivers, and some limited but welcomed integration with Expression Media (recently acquired by Phase One).
Future versions of Capture One will surely further increase support and integration with Expression media; this update comes only days after the purchase of Expression media by Phase One, so seeing any results this fast is surprising and very welcome.
Capture Integration will be testing this new version of Capture One. Until then we recommend customers follow the same general advice as always. If you are a professional photographer depending on your computer as a tool to accomplish his work that you should not update their software or operating-system until:
- the update has been out long enough to give a sense of whether it contains any nasty bugs that would slow down your workflow, waste your time, or worse.
- you have time to make a complete bootable backup of your system in case you need it
- you have time to do a complete test of anything critical you do on your computer (tethering, processing, retouching, printing etc)
Also, we recommend you follow our Capture One Uninstall Instructions to remove any previous version of Capture One from your computer before updating to a new version (rather than simply overwriting the previous version).
From the release notes:
Capture One 5.1.2 contains the following enhancements:
- Updated firmware for Leaf backs (compatible with Leaf Capture 11.3.5).
- Tethered support and file support for the Leaf Aptus-II 10R.
- JPEG Quickproof® support on Windows.
- More stable tethering driver for Windows 64 bit.
- QuickLook and WIC support for Leaf MOS files.
- A number of bug fixes.
Expression Media support:
- Easily add a selection of images to an Expression Media catalog.
- Preview images in Expression Media using Capture One’s default rendering.
- Transfer rating and color tag between applications by drag and dropping images.
- Create an album with images found by searching in Expression Media.
You can always buy Capture One from Capture Integration following these instructions for a 10% discount.
