PhotoDeck

I take many calls each day from our customers. In fact it is my job! While most of the conversations center around Capture One, Leaf/Phase/Mamiya Digital backs, or other products we sell and support I’m often asked for my input on a wide array of technologies relevant to photographers. One question that has plagued me for several years is what “engine” or service a photographer should use for their website. While PhotoDeck will not be the answer for all of them it is a great option for many.

What is Photodeck.com?

PhotoDeck.com is a full e-commerce and proofing platform for independent stock, assignment and portrait/wedding photographers, featuring:

• Online Archives
• Proofing and Delivery
• Stock Photography
• E-Commerce

Advantages

• Direct communication with the end-buyer. Most stock agencies firewall the photographer and the end-buyer. This paves the way for relationship building, followups, and repeat business.
• No commission payments. The photographer keeps 100% of the proceeds (minus any minor transaction fee, e.g. for credit card processing).
• Low monthly cost. $30/month for the pro version
• Custom URL and look. With minimal effort a web-savvy user can integrate PhotoDeck into their existing website design and URL. In other words visitors to your photodeck page will not have any idea they are not visiting another page of your standard website.
• Branding. When viewing your images at a 3rd party stock site (e.g. Getty) your image is mixed in with thousands of other photographers. On your own site you have your own brand.
• Client Approval/Delivery. A client can log into a private gallery and edit a shoot using a standard 5-star rating system.

Disadvantages

• No direct fulfillment of prints. Client can select and pay for prints through PhotoDeck but the photographer must fulfill the prints manually. High volume print orders could become tedious.

The last day of 2010 is now behind us. I look back at the last twelve months with mixed emotions.  Our industry lost some incredible talents this year that we were lucky to have as clients and even more fortunate to call our friends.  They left gaping holes that will never be filled.  Instead, we keep their spirits alive in our memories and by how we take care of the loved ones that were left behind.

With the difficult economy of the past few years, it was refreshing to see so many of our customer’s businesses expand and grow again.  Many started new ventures or added new services to their business that have improved their bottom line.  Whether they added video capability, expanded their social media marketing, add a technical camera, or found that it was time to increase the resolution of their capture device, our customer’s growth was considerable.

In order to keep up with this growth and meet our customer’s needs, in 2011 Capture Integration will be adding new personnel, picking up new product lines, expanding our national seminar and workshop schedule, and make a concerted effort to increase our face to face time with the people who make our jobs so enjoyable.   With seminar locations from Woodstock, VT to San Francisco, CA, we hope to see as many of our customers in person as possible.

But most importantly, I want to say Thank You.   The only reason that we have been able to succeed and secure a prominent role in our market is that we have the most loyal and generous customers possible.  Please know that we do not take your patronage for granted.  We are humbled that you have chosen us as your partner.  We respect you and your business greatly and will do everything that we can to support you to the level that you expect from a member of your business.
