Architectural Photographic Pornography….
January 9, 2010 | Dave
I have never been as visually stimulated by an artform as I have with this CG piece by The Third & The Seventh from Alex Roman on Vimeo. If you love architectural photogaphy as much as I do then I highly suggest watching this stunning piece of work. And in the back of your mind remember that……… this is all CG. Enjoy.

Thank You………………..

Its 7:30PM and I am closing down the company for 2009. We made it through the hardest year of business in my lifetime and we are still healthy at it’s finale. I am thankful for more people than I can list. I have a team that isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty and will work long hours. They don’t complain about the extra time we put in to make sure that the product and service is at the level that our customers demand. They are our backbone and I am proud to be associated with each and every one of them. I have customers who are loyal and honest. Your support this year has let us keep doing what we love. And I have a family and spouse who understands my stress and the long hours necessary to create something so unique and superior in our industry. Thank you everyone. I am more appreciative than you know.
Happy 2010!

Giving a little back this season………

Help Portrait
A few weeks ago, Jason Fobart of APA Atlanta, contacted me and asked me if I could help with a charity project here in the inner city. Living downtown and having our business based here, I feel a strong connection to the people I see everyday on the streets that we share. During the year we do a little here and there where we can, but this was a chance to bring some joy into a few lives that really could use a boost. When Jason explained the cause and what the organization was trying to accomplish on an international level we jumped in with both feet and offered as much as we could possibly do to help with this cause. I can go on and on in words to describe this day but I think that it is better to watch it in video.

About Help Portrait Across the World
Sometimes it is easy take so much for granted in our lives. I asked one young man why his address wasn’t filled out and he stated that he didn’t know his Mom’s address. I dialed his mom’s number and handed him my phone. When the line picked up I heard the joy in his voice ” Hi mom! It’s me James…… yes…… yes……. I am doing fine…….” The conversation went on but I didn’t want to eavesdrop. But the tone of James’ voice said it all. It was what we were trying achieve here that day. Photographers using their talents to provide a little bit of joy, pride, or hope this holiday. I want to thank all those who “let” us give them something on Saturday, because in return……….. they gave us so much more.

What its all about………
November 11, 2009 | Dave
Do you work to live or live to work?
It’s a simple answer on my end. If I were asked what my favorite word was in the English language, it would take me seconds to pronounce “dad”. After reading Ralph Waldo Emerson as a young adult I have never been the same. These words keep me grounded. I pull them out and read them after a tedious day or a particularly bad month of business. They remind me of all that I have to be thankful for and help me focus on the incredible gift I have been given ….. the privilege of being a husband and a father.
To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded
Ralph Waldo Emerson

I founded Capture Integration with the idea that we didn’t need to follow the rules. If you know me, then you understand this completely! Proper customer service, personal attention to details, and a normal respect for the customer was missing in our region as well as our high end marketplace. Remembering these key principles and incorporating into our daily lives seemed like common sense but it is lacking in so many businesses today. Thus, I threw out all the ideas of what a “camera store” or “photo dealer” were and I created something so much more.
Saying it is one thing, but it was important to me that I instilled this attitude throughout the company. I have been extremely fortunate to have found the right mix of people that not only understood this concept but have been able to take it to the next level. I have the privilege to work with the some of the finest people that I have ever met in life, never mind in our industry. Their priorities in life are on target. If you don’t know them personally, I highly suggest getting to know them. You won’t regret it.

Leica S2 – Will We Sell It?
The Leica S2 has created a huge buzz since it was announced at Photokina. We’ve had many customers call since it’s announcement to ask if we would be selling the Leica S2.
Capture Integration only carries products we have complete confidence in. We do not sell based on marketing materials and technical specifications; we sell based on proven results and exceptional quality. When there is a final S2 production unit is ready with tethering capabilities and working output, we will jump at the chance to put it through it’s paces at our testing lab. If the testing shows the S2 is a product that we can be fully confident in and will live up to the high quality that we expect out of a product at this price point, then we will begin recommending and selling it. You can be sure that regardless of what we decide it will be based on our honest and considered opinion.

But Can it Survive an Elephant?
We get a lot of comments on our very serious series of durability videos which show Phase One digital backs being frozen, cooked, dropped, and otherwise abused without missing a beat.
The below video is NOT from that series. It is a spoof intended only for humor. It is NOT from Phase One. It is a joke.
The very real series of videos that the below video spoofs can be found here.

This year’s pumpkins……
October 31, 2008 | Dave
I had great expectations of carving 5 pumpkins last night, one for each member of the family. However, I sadly did not meet this seemingly simple, but foolishly lofty goal. Here are two that I did complete. One for my son and one for my wife. I will let you decide who’s pumpkin is who’s. : )

Paying respect to the medium we helped destroy.
October 25, 2008 | Dave
Just this week we were asked if we knew where to buy some 4×5 Polaroid. While I can’t say I know where any hidden boxes of Type 55 are, what I can give you is this. If you have a mac, then click the link below and download a little bit of nostalgia.
http://www.poladroid.net/download.php?f=Poladroid0.9.5.dmg.zip
This cool little app will let you take any of your images and relive that polaroid feeling. The only thing missing is the residue left on your fingers. Drag and drop your image onto the instamatic and you will hear the trademark sounds, see the picture eject, wait for you picture to develop, and see the “polaroid” look of your image after the picture finally develops. If this doesn’t bring a smile to your face then I am not sure what will. Enjoy.

Team Building
September 23, 2008 | Dave
The Partner’s conference before Photokina is designed for the international partner base to learn from one another in order to become a stronger whole. We have two days of internal conversation covering all topics of software, hardware, accessories, and partnerships. All of this in an incredible atmosphere of a globally historic hotel.
Yesterday started off with Phase One’s primaries in Musketeer’s costume and ended with a full Lederhosen ensemble. Now even though I took pictures during these events I must assure you that it is in your best interest to not witness these as I have. You will thank me for it, trust me.
Instead, I will show you one team building event that has us all in muscle cream and heating pads as I speak. Someone had the brilliant idea that we should have a football tournament between members of Phase One and the partner base. And by football I unfortunately mean American Soccer. Of which, I have not played since Jr. High School and I hated it then as well.
But of course we tried our best. Interestingly, 4 Years ago at another photokina I was presented the award of “the person who succeeded the most with the least amount of talent.” This was after a marathon Formula 1 event between the dealers where I drove NASCAR style, bumping and blocking, to the strong dismay of every single European in the event. I have to say I did my best to win that award again but I was dethroned by Knowlege Integrated’s Walter Borchenko. He was by far superior to me in this category as you can see. : )
By the end of the match, our team placed in 3rd out of 8, mainly through the efforts or our captain, P1 CEO Herik Hakonsson, and a steller player from our Barcelona partner. We North Americans threw or weight around and bullied our way but were only bit players to their European excellence.
In the end we had a great first day of team building. And in true Phase One fashion, concluded the day with one hell of a party. A long drive through the pitch dark German forest opened to a small secluded Bierhaus. We had a wonderfully traditional meal with ample amounts of beer and wine. But to everyone’s suprise, within minutes of the meal’s end, this quiet and quaint little room quicly transformed into Coyote Ugly East! Dancing girls and shooters! What a trip. Let me just say that this picture is tame and is the only thing that I can show. More to come soon!

International Partners Meeting
September 20, 2008 | Dave
My wife and I just arrived to an incredible hotel, Steigenberger Grandhotel Petersberg, in the small town of Koenigswinter, Germany. We are a day early for the biennial Phase One dealer meeting. Only a select number of US dealers are invited so we are always grateful for the invitation. Tomorrow will be a day of products announcements, technical information, and teambuilding the Danish way. It is always an enjoyable few days before Photokina begins. I will try to keep everyone up to date with any new product or technical information that will be allowed to leave the presentation room. Right now you will have to settle for the few images that we shot today on our day off. Enjoy.
Our room can be seen by the open window in the top floor. Embarassingly large and full of history.
Is this considered drinking and driving in Germany?
40 hours of being awake, its time for some rest.
A relaxing evening before the next two crazy days.

Stop the Madness and take the time to Jump
July 21, 2008 | Dave
I believe that the rate of time speeds up as we age. The summers lasted so long when I was a kid and now they speed by in a blink, leaving me in a whirl wondering what just flew past me. It is so easy to focus on deadlines, sales goals, accounting paperwork, etc. and let important family time go unspent. This Friday I was able to to take a business trip to deliver a P45+ kit and managed to extend through the weekend taking the family along to create some lifetime memories. Looking at the pictures I realize how just amazingly foolish I am for forgeting sometimes how important these summers are to my family. Not just today but for years to come. Why do I need to combine a business trip in order to understand this? Thank God I have an incredible wife to steer me in the right direction and slap me back to reality when I need it. I am a very lucky man. Here are a few of our pictures from this weekend. I hope you enjoy them.

Our First Event in Miami
February 28, 2008 | Dave, News
Update: Capture Integration’s Miami office will be holding a second event on April 24 @ 6:30pm. Click here to RSVP.
Kudos have to go out to our two newest additions to Capture Integration, Lance Schad and Doug Peterson. We proudly opened our doors to the public a few months back and had our first open house just this past Thursday. It was refreshing to be able to hang back and let very capable people take the reigns. Doug and Lance presented Capture One 4.0, Eizo monitors, and Drobo systems while Murray Elliott, Phase One Sales Manager, laid out the Phase One roadmap for the next few months. We had an excellent turnout and everything came off without a hitch. I was very impressed with a first effort and very proud to have them as a part of our team.

Go gently Mr. Froehlich
February 5, 2008 | Dave
Last week we lost a hero in our industry. Henry Froehlich, age 85, passed away on January 24th. Henry was the kindest and most sincere man that I have ever met in the photographic community. Whenever I had the chance to speak with him, I would stretch it as long as I could (and Henry always obliged!) just trying to gain a fraction of his wisdom and experiences. The labels of mentor, leader, and pioneer were never more justly used in reference to anyone else. To me, he was a treasure that is irreplaceable, a light and a smile that changed your day for the better when you had the chance to say hello. Goodnight Mr. Froehlich, you will be missed greatly.
