Editors note: this is a cross post from our friend and client Ken Doo who is hosting an upcoming get together for medium format photographers Feb 18-21. Original article at Ken’s website.

Pigs in a Blanket

Pigs in a Blanket at the Wagon Wheel for breakfast mark this light-hearted weekend for serious medium format digital photographers

It’s back! Phase One Dealer of the Year, Capture Integration from Atlanta and Miami is returning to Carmel February 18-21, 2010. Owner Dave Gallagher is heading the entourage, co-sponsored by my good friend, Don Libby of Iron Creek Photography from Tucson, Arizona and Ken Doo Photography in Carmel, California. Similar to last year’s event, CI in Carmel is not a typical photography workshop. It is geared more towards landscape photography and having fun–without adult supervision! The focus is on the best of the best in digital photography and primarily medium format digital camera equipment. This year, CI in Carmel will feature the new Leica S2, Leica M9, Phase One P65+, P45+, P40+, Schneider 80mm leaf shutter, Rodenstock Digiron 40mm t/s for Cambo RS, among others.

If you are interested in a particular type of test or shooting please state it in the RSVP and we will try to accommodate.

Two models will be helping us spreading holiday cheer.

About Jeffrey

Jeffrey Jacobs is a nationally recognized photographer of architecture based in Memphis. His approach is transformative, making the functional appear stunning and the elegant quite literally magnificent. Jacobs finds the perfect viewpoint and captures – or creates – the defining light to reveal the designer’s artistry, from large structures to product details. Combining professionalism, creativity and extensive production experience with quintessential Southern charm, Jacobs ensures his shoots are smooth, fun and always successful. Consistently providing exceptional production value, Jacobs also knows when natural light and “simple” are the best choice.

Spanning more than 28 years, Jeffrey Jacobs’ career has focused exclusively on high-end architecture, architectural product and hospitality/resort photography for the past 20 years. From large-scale projects to small intimate spaces, Jacobs’ artfully detailed and masterfully crafted three-dimensional lighting techniques are recognized nationally and internationally. Jacobs’ extensive experience includes all types of image production, from “bubble gum to Mack Trucks,” including food, large studio and elaborate location productions in addition to numerous television, music video and documentary motion picture presentations. In the early to mid-1980s, his responsibilities included Lighting Director, Gaffer, Best Boy Electric and Key Grip on several regional and local television commercials.

This extensive production experience has given Jacobs a unique insight into every aspect of image production, both still and motion, and enables him to explore the full range of possibilities ultimately bringing his or his clients’ vision to reality. He consistently provides his clients with unique and often unprecedented results using lighting approaches rarely considered or attempted by other professionals. He also knows when natural light and simple are the best choice.

Jacobs’ images have appeared in international periodicals and books on architecture and architectural photography, including several volumes of the Spaces of the World Series, and have been featured on several covers. His photographs are spotlighted in Through the Lens: International Architectural Photographers, released by Images Publishing of Melbourne, Australia, and was one of only ten photographers invited from the USA. Jacobs was recently interviewed for a 2007 feature in Photo District News about his unique lighting approach and production techniques. His work also appears in national trade and consumer magazines such as Architectural Digest, Architectural Record, Interiors, Interior Design, Restaurant& Hotel Design, Southern Living, American Kitchens, Photo District News (PDN) and Professional Photographer, as editorial features, product advertising and award announcements. His professional associations include Master Photographer-Professional Photographer of America, American Society of Media Photographers, Architectural Photographers Specialty Group and associate member of the American Institute of Architects-Memphis.

Jacobs has earned a reputation for his unwavering dedication to excellence and true passion for his art and his clients. His commitment to quality service, the responsibility he feels toward achieving his clients’ goals, while consistently exceeding their expectations, make him a superb choice when quality imagery and professionalism truly matter.

Jan 28, 2009 | Moab – GetDPI.com Workshop

November 20, 2008 | upcoming seminars

GetDPI.com has just announced their Winter Workshop that will be held out west in Moab, Sedona , Flagstaff and Monument Valley.

We are proud to participate again on our third workshop by supporting the GetDPI.com members with Phase One gear ,a variety of technical camera systems and our knowledge /support. This is a perfect time to try and learn about new equipment or learn how to better utilize your existing equipment. Is also a great networking event to share your passion of photography with others.

Click here to see a video from the recent lighting workshop that we assisted with (thanks to Carlos Prio/Fielddominace) for putting this together: http://www.fielddominance.com/getdpi/ .

Here are the details on the upcoming workshop from GetDPI.com:

First one, the timing is Wednesday January 28th start time in Moab, Utah and this will be our shoot and raw processing and Photoshop workshop which will end on Saturday January 31st. (Actually we meet in Moab Tuesday evening for cocktails, then start with a Wednesday morning shoot.) We will have teaching and image sharing modules in here and also have some manufacturer’s reps with us in Moab. Given the economy we decided to lower the price to help get more folks to come. This one is 1195.00 but we need to have at least 10 people commit to even hit the go button. We need to confirm first, but once confirmed we have enough folks, we’ll need full payment. December 15th is our final decision date.

We also decided to add a mini option on the front end of this workshop if folks are interested. This would start on Monday morning the 26th in Sedona, move through Flagstaff and then stopping in the Monument Valley area on our way to Moab. So Jack and I will be starting in Phoenix and this would be a good airport to fly into then rental car up and back to Moab. I would suggest the carpooling idea with a fellow attendee, but that’s up to you. We will provide a list of who is starting on the front end. The cost on the front end is only a additional $199 dollars if you do the Moab workshop, $399 by itself. As you know Moab is a target rich shooting area and Sedona and Flagstaff are as well . So lot’s of great images to be taken and being the winter the chance of snow on mountain tops is almost a guarantee. Last year we got a full blown storm in Moab which led to spectacular imagery, we hope for the same this year!

Our magic number to make this a go is 10 so please get back to us ASAP. If we get 10 yes, then we’re on. As always, this is open to all formats and all camera’s plus all levels of experience. Once we have a idea on the numbers more details will follow shortly. We really hope you can all attend as you know we have a lot of fun together and the learning experience is top notch.

Please reply to both Jack and I with a yes or no so we can try and make this happen: Jack@GetDPI.com and Guy@GetDpi.com.

I just wanted to give a plug for an upcoming Studio Lighting Workshop that is being organized by our friends at the GetDPI.com Workshop Forums. I can speak from experience that the workshops that Guy and Jack organize are worth every penny. I recently had the opportunity to travel on their most recent workshop to Old San Juan, Puerto Rico (blog entry soon I promise!). If you are not aware of the GetDPI.com forums I urge you to check them out and see for yourself the type of community that they are building for photo professionals and enthusiasts of all levels. Capture Integration is proud to be part of their forum and we plan contributing or technical knowledge and of course all the latest toys for you to play with and use, especially the latest from Phase One.

The dates for the Studio Lighting are September 16th through 20th 2008 at Tye Studios in Fort Lauderdale Florida. Instructors will be Guy Mancuso and Jack Flesher, with David Kipper assisting. The basic workshop format will be as follows:

The format for the shooting of the modules insures each participant has a significant amount of “one-on-one” shooting time with the models; you will NOT be shooting model sets as a “group” of photographers all shooting the same set! Instead, participants will be working in pairs as a team — one shoots and directs while the other assists — taking turns for each studio set. In this fashion, each participant is guaranteed ample time as the directing photographer working independently with the model(s) on any given set.

Note that any camera brand or format size is welcome, including film cameras, but your camera needs to be able to trigger a studio strobe light pack, so it should have either a PC flash synch port or hot shoe for use of a Pocket Wizard or Skyport style RF strobe triggering device.

Space for this workshop is limited to 12 participants and will be offered on a first-come, first served basis.
