Cambo Wide RS

The Cambo Wide RS is an improvement over Cambo’s Wide DS body. It is more compact, has self arresting movements (no locking required after rising/falling/shifting)

Cambo Wide RS Anniversary Edition

A Limited Edition RS Body with Aesthetic & Functional Improvements

The Cambo Wide Anniversary Edition is a limited edition of 65 to commemorate Cambo’s 65th year in business. It improves both aesthetically and functionally on the RS body and is fully compatible with any RS lens or accessory.

The body sports wooden handgrips and is available in either Black Aluminum or Titanium Finishing. Each body is engraved with it’s number within the 65-unit series and is sold in a custom-cut Cambo-branded carrying case with a cosmetically matched Special Edition Schneider 28mm XL and Schneider 43XL (Capture Integration can also create a custom kit for our customers who would prefer different lenses). The result is truly beautiful.

However, Capture Integration isn’t usually enthusiastic about “special edition” items that only feature cosmetic changes. Fortunately Cambo agrees with this philosophy and added a few often-requested improvements to the core functions of the RS. The traditional metal grip of the RS body has been replaced by a wooden handgrip which makes handholding the camera (both for shooting and transportation) significantly more pleasant, especially in colder weather. The thumbwheels for rise/fall/shift have been enlarged and have a more strongly dimpled surface which makes large movements faster and small movements more precise. Finally, the self-arresting mechanism which keeps the rise movement locked has been improved with additional tension to counteract the weight of a digital back. This means that after mounting a digital back it as easy to rise as it is to fall correcting a minor but annoying aspect of using the original RS body.

Cambo Wide DS

Cambo’s first “Wide” camera is still available from Capture Integration in a specially priced bundle with the Schneider 35mm XL lenses. It is a great option for those looking to get into a tech camera but are on a tight budget. The lens panels for the Cambo Wide system are all compatible with the Cambo Wide RS, Cambo Wide DS, and Cambo Compact.

Retrofitting Existing Lenses

Most large format lenses can be retrofitted into the Cambo Wide mount. When using a high resolution digital back the best results will come from using the Schneider XL and Rodenstock HR series lenses (whether by purchasing them from us pre-mounted or having us retrofit an existing lens). These newer digital-grade lenses have been designed for the size and resolution of a medium format digital back. However, for lower resolution backs, and for budgetary reasons customers may also wish to retrofit other lenses. Below is a partial list of lenses, if you have a lens not on this list please let us know and we will get you a quote for a custom refit (if possible for that lens). Prices vary from US$999 to US$1999 based on which lens and whether or not the tilt-swing mechanism is added. Contact us for a specific quote.

This process is coordinated by Capture Integration and is executed in the Netherlands by Cambo engineers and includes: Lensboard, Protective Bars, Helical Focussing, Mount, Assembly, Fine Adjustment/Calibration, Packing. Note that shipping is billed separately.
