Canon 1Ds Mark III Tethered in OSX 10.5.6 vs 10.5.5
Apple recently updated their operating system OSX to 10.5.6. This update contained a long awaited optimization of their USB drivers. Combined with the beta with Capture One 4.6 which includes many performance boosts we tested a Canon 1Ds Mark III tethered to our 8-core Mac Pro.
Testing notes:
Software: Capture One 4.6 Beta
Hardware: Mac Pro 2.8 Ghz Eight-Core with 10gb of Ram, Canon 1Ds Mark III at ISO 100*
Tethered setup: shooting to a folder on the main hard drive
*Shooting at higher ISO slows tethered shooting
Definitions:
Time Between Shutter Release and Preview: the time between the end of the shutter release and the display of a full-and-final preview image appears on the computer. In Capture One this is measured as time until the high-res preview with styles applies rather than the low-res preview that is initially displayed.
Maximum Shutter Releases: the total number of shutter releases possible, even if those images are still in the buffer at the end of the timed period
Maximum Transferred to Computer: the total number of shots which have transferred to the computer at the end of a timed period. This includes images for which a full-and-final preview has not been created. Measured by the number of thumbnails seen in the browser at the end of the timed period.
Burst Lag: time needed to display the full-and-final preview of the last shot of a burst (i.e. time needed to clear the buffer)
