What’s On My Desk Today?
Every day there is the most fantastic photographic equipment on my desk for one reason or another. I may be doing some comparative testing, I may be practicing some element of it, I may be investigating something for one of my clients. I had this idea and it could become a regular series, I’m not sure. Nothing too deep, just a short scribble about something cool and what I’m doing with it. We’ll see.

What Is It?
This is a Cambo WRS Anniversary Edition Technical Shift Camera. One of 64 made, this is Unit # 2. It can shift 22.5mm horizontally in either direction (for a total of 45mm) and/or vertically 15mm plus 25mm (for a total of 40mm). These shift axis can be combined in the same capture for X+Y manipulation. The lens is the Rodenstock HR-SW, and it happens to be mounted in one of those old school copal shutters. This lens is configured in short barrel, which means it benefits from having a separate rear spacer on the camera in order to obtain infinity focus. This rear spacer enables an expansion of the shift tolerance, by pushing the sensor plane away from the camera body, the lens can be shifted to the maximum allowed without any restrictions from the opening of the camera body. The capture device is the Phase One IQ3 100 digital back, which features the largest available sensor size for digital backs, 54mm x 40mm. Also, one of our great Capture Integration lens caps for Rodenstock lenses.
Why Is It Here?
One of my clients asked me what sort of ratios one could achieve with various technical shift cameras. I produced some examples from this particular configuration.

What Do I Love About This?

I may hesitate to say I loooove some things, but in this case, I definitely love these Cambo Gearing Knobs, which are standard on Cambo WRS 5000 series and WRS 1600 series technical cameras. It’s so easy to navigate with your finger, easy to find without having to stare at the camera, easily findable by feel in low light situations. The action is smooth. The gearing itself is not too fast, not too slow, the perfect mixture of speed and precision. There is something visually that I love about them as well, they look cool. Well done, Cambo.
