How Tariffs Impact Fujifilm, Phase One, Hasselblad…

Tariffs For Everyone

Since the US tariffs were announced on April 2nd, questions have swirled about what this means for the camera industry.

It’s no secret that most consumer cameras are manufactured globally in countries like China, Japan, and our friends in the EU. As a result, US importers will face tariff bills as they bring products into the US.

Even as a priority dealer of brands like Phase One, Hasselblad, Fujifilm, and more, we at CI still have many lingering questions. Initially, the tariffs were in the 20-35% range. We wondered how much of that would be absorbed by our US partners importing the cameras and how much would be passed on to the consumer through price increases. Developments on April 10th reduced most countries to 10% for 90 days, and threatened to raise China to 145%.

This article was originally published on April 11th. However, it’s almost guaranteed that every day, week, and month moving forward will bring new changes. This article will be updated as the tariff details evolve. Look for the most recent date below.

July 23, 2025

The United States has agreed to a trade deal with the European Union and Japan where their products will be taxed at a rate of 15% upon entering the United States. All US importers will be charged this tariff on top of the present fees and duties.

Phase One: Phase One and Capture Integration will continue to mutually absorb 50% of the tariff. On August 1st, prices will increase from 5% to 7.5%

Fujifilm: Prices increase on August 1st anywhere from 6-11% per product. With possible increases in the future.

Cambo and ALPA: Prices will be calculated upon the new 15% tariff rate.

Hasselblad: No information today.

July 22, 2025

As of July 22, 2025, we are nearing the end of President Trump’s 90-day tariff suspension. This suspension was initially set to expire on July 8th, but was extended to August 1st.

Notably for the camera industry, Japan’s tariff is expected to increase to 25%, the EU’s to 30%, and Thailand’s to 36%. China’s tariff suspension was negotiated separately and is set to end on August 12th. What China’s tariff will be following the suspension is less clear.

Official Response from Each Manufacturer with US distribution:

Fujifilm: NEW! Fujifilm will increase all products on August 1st. Importantly, all pre-existing orders will be canceled at the older prices. NO CURRENT orders will be honored at pre-tariff pricing. Price increases range from 7-11%. Most notably…

What we predict

Emphasis on the word “predict.”

U.S. tariffs rising to 30% on the EU will directly affect brands like Hasselblad, ALPA, Leica & Cambo, which import from Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, and the Netherlands. The 25% tariff on Japan will primarily affect brands such as Fujifilm and Phase One, while the 36% tariff on Thailand may indirectly impact brands that source image sensors from Sony, like Hasselblad and Fujifilm.

Our partners overseas are scrambling to adjust. Smaller countries have very little negotiating power as their imports are exponentially smaller than their exports. We believe that the majority of these increases will go into affect in just a few weeks.

What we’d recommend

Patience and partnership. The unstable rise and fall of self imposed taxation has been incredibly difficult for customers, vendors, and small companies like Capture Integration. We face the same kind of uncertainty as we did in the beginning of 2020’s Covid Pandemic. What we are requesting is open communication and trust. We will do our best to weather this storm together and will try to work around your buying needs and timing.

Our in-stock inventory is available to browse in the collections below. Any in-stock product can be purchased today through July 31 at the pre-tariff price.

1. Official Response from Each Manufacturer with US distribution

Hasselblad – Only price increases today are the following lenses: XCD 45P increases $400 to $1499, XCD 75P increases $600 to $2899.

Leica – 7% increase in full product line. D-Lux increasing +75%, Accessories from China +90%.

Profoto – Price increase May 15th. Products increasing are A2, A10, Pro D3, Pro B3

Eizo recently confirmed that their prices will remain the same until further notice.

2. These are the tariffs some of our manufacturers face today…

  • Phase One: Japan (10%)
  • Fujifilm: Japan (10%) and China (145%)
  • Hasselblad: Sweden (10%), Japan (10%), and China (145%)
  • Leica: Germany (10%) and Portugal (10%)
  • Cambo: Netherlands (10%)
  • Sony: Thailand (10%), Japan (10%), and China (145%)
  • ALPA: Switzerland (10%)

2. Tariffs can vary not only per manufacturer but also per product line.

As seen above, some manufacturers import from multiple countries.

Let’s take Hasselblad, for example.

When searching online, Sweden is the only importer mentioned for Hasselblad products. However, looking at the boxes on our shelves, current Hasselblad bodies like the 907x 100c and the X2D 100c are made in Sweden, batteries, chargers, and accessories are made in China, and most lenses like the 90V, 45P, and 55V are made in Japan. This trend had a few exceptions, like the 75P lens made in China.

As of right now, April 16th, they are telling us that just the 45P and 75P will be going up in price.

3. Cambo, ALPA, and Phoxene products require a quote.

Capture Integration is the direct importer of these products. This means we are already directly seeing both the exchange rates vary and the 10% tariffs being applied to our shipping invoices.

Due to these variables, new estimates will need to be calculated according to the daily factors and pricing.

All of these manufacturers understand the difficulty we face and are working with us to make the impact minimal with most of them bringing the impact well under 10%.

3. In-stock products are flying off the shelf.

Amidst the uncertainty, one thing is sure: Prices aren’t going down. In the past week, most, if not all, of our orders have been for in-stock products. They are ( at least at CI ) guaranteed to be protected from tariff price hikes. However, once they’re gone, they’re gone.

One example of this is that Capture Integration is currently out of batteries and chargers that we create for Phase One. The shipment is held up in customs and we are facing a foolishly high 145% tariff. Therefore these products will sit and wait this out and we will not have any for the foreseeable future.
