In Memory and Recognition: Thomas Weber of Alpa
This past week we were saddened to hear the news that Thomas Weber passed. We enjoyed a close working relationship with Thomas over the years, and while the ownership of Alpa changed to the very capable hands of Hans Keist in 2022, the imprint that Thomas Weber made will last forever.
I met Thomas in 2014 on a trip to Alpa and he made an indelible impression on me. In 1996 Alpa charted a new territory with Thomas, a crazy genius sort of mission of bypassing the mainstream market of 35mm, and instead embracing the world of medium format film and digital capture by producing high precision, compact shifting cameras, mated to customized Rodenstock and Schneider lenses.
In doing so, he created a unique future for Alpa, who already had an impactful past, and many generations of photographers around the world who value the level of care required to produce such a product are thankful. As are we at Capture Integration, who are fortunate to be part of the world where Alpa designs and creates these amazing products that we are able to put in our great clients’ hands.
Capture Integration as a team stands in gratitude to the contributions Thomas Weber made to the wonderful world of photography.
